What Foster Training Is Available?
Acorn Fostering Services offers comprehensive training programs for both pre-approval and post-approval foster carers. Prospective foster carers are required to attend a two-day Skills to Foster (STF) training facilitated by Acorn’s Senior Recruitment Officer and current foster carers. The STF training is designed to provide a realistic understanding of the responsibilities and challenges of fostering. Post-approval training includes a mix of e-learning, face-to-face training, and virtual training, with each foster carer having a Personal Development Plan (PDP) outlining their training needs. Mandatory training events are scheduled at the beginning of the year, allowing foster carers to plan around other commitments. Acorn foster carers also have access to regular support groups, WhatsApp support groups, and a “buddy system” pairing them with another carer in their area. These training programs demonstrate Acorn’s commitment to providing foster carers with the knowledge, skills, and support necessary to provide high-quality care to children in need.
