How to Become a Foster Carer in Northamptonshire
Becoming a foster carer in Northamptonshire is a simple and straightforward process. Our team of experienced recruitment officers will guide you through the process from start to finish. The first step is to get in touch with us and express your interest in becoming a foster carer After a successful telephone interview, a social worker will visit your home and conduct a preliminary assessment, If the preliminary assessment is positive, you will be invited to attend our two day mandatory skills to foster training / assessment days and may then be invited to make an application, once accepted, a fully comprehensive assessment known as the Form F Assessment will be conducted, which includes various statutory checks. After receiving a positive recommendation from an independent fostering panel, you will be approved as a foster carer. Continuation of your approval is reviewed annually, and you will be required to adhere to the terms and conditions contained in our Service Agreement.
What Foster Training Is Available?
Acorn Fostering Services provides a comprehensive training program for prospective and approved foster carers. Prior to submitting an application, prospective foster carers are required to attend a mandatory two-day training called “Skills to Foster” (STF). This training is designed to provide an overview of the realities of fostering and help individuals determine if it’s the right choice for them and their families. Once approved, foster carers are allocated a Supervising Social Worker (SSW) who will supervise and support them and be their primary point of contact. Foster carers attend regular support groups and have access to a WhatsApp support group for advice and information sharing. Post-approval training consists of e-learning, face-to-face, and virtual training, tailored to each foster carers Personal Development Plan (PDP). The agency provides a calendar of training events, allowing foster carers to plan around other fostering tasks and commitments. Acorn Fostering Services provides ongoing support and training for foster carers to ensure the best possible outcomes for the children in their care.
